Fix the Seawall

This story is about a little boy, a little Dutch boy about 12 years of age, in the Netherlands, spotting that a leak spring in the seawall. He looked around for an adult, and seeing no one, he put his finger in that leak, then figuring how he would plug that leak. Suddenly, another leak sprung up and he takes a finger from his other hand and plugs the 2nd leak. From the second leak, another leak sprung up, then another.  Until suddenly he realized he couldn’t plug all the holes.  At the end of the story, the flood came.

The boy’s leadership thinking was perfect… It was the seawall springing the leak.  The seawall was the business system.  No matter how well you coach a leader or send managers to a training program, if the seawall is leaking, the flood will eventually happen.

The moral of this story is that no matter how good the leader, the leaks in the seawall, know, unknown and soon to happen, ultimately turn leaks to floods.  The need is to fix the seawall
