Five American Athletes Earn First Team All-America Honors at NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

Boston, Mass. – Nine student-athletes from The American competed in the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Boston on Thursday and Friday night, with five securing First Team All-America honors.

Charlotte’s Riley Felts was the highest finisher among the athletes, finishing as the NCAA Runner-Up in the women’s pole vault.  Felts cleared a personal best 4.50 meters to earn second place.

A pair of pentathlon athletes earned First Team All-American honors as Rice’s Eliza Kraule finished in 5th place with 4,353 points, while Wichita State’s Destiny Masters finished just behind her in 6th place with 4,338 points. Masters will compete in the high jump on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.

Rice’s Alexander Slinkman secured First Team All-American honors in men’s pole vault, clearing 5.40 meters for a 7th place finish in the event.

Two athletes competed in the women’s long jump as UTSA’s Ida Breigan earned First Team All-American honors with a jump of 6.38 meters to finish in 6th place.  SMU’s Funminiyi Olajide earned Second Team All-American honors with a 10th place finish and a jump of 6.32 meters.

In the men’s 60-meter dash, South Florida’s Saminu Abdul-Rasheed became the first Bull to qualify for the finals in a men’s track event, running a 6.62 to finish in 8th place and earn the final qualifying seed. He will run in the finals on Sunday at 4:40 p.m. ET.

In the men’s 200-meter dash, South Florida’s Shevioe Reid finished in 11th place in the preliminaries, running a 20.81 second race.

Rice’s Tara Simpson-Sullivan competed in the women’s weight throw on Thursday, finishing in 12th place with a throw of 20.92 meters.
