FIU Softball News: Softball Heads to Clermont for Four-Game Weekend

MIAMI (Feb. 25, 2021) – The FIU softball team will continue its string of road games, as the Panthers head to Clermont, Florida, on Feb. 26-27 to take part in the Spring Games tournament.

FIU will face No. 12 Kentucky and New Mexico State on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., before closing out the tournament against Stetson and a rematch against New Mexico State on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

All games of the tournament will be streamed online through FLOSoftball, and attendance will be limited to a pass-list model for the players and coaches’ families for the event due to the circumstances of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

LAST TIME OUT
FIU closed out its time in Fort Myers last week with a win over Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday, after bouncing back from losses to UConn and Northern Illinois earlier in the weekend. Freshman Brooklynn Linneman pitched six innings and allowed just two runs in her first collegiate win in the circle against FGCU.

SCOUTING THE FOES
Kentucky enters this weekend at 9-0 and ranked 12th overall in the country, while New Mexico State enters the tournament at 1-6 with three of their losses coming at the hands of No. 24 UCF last time out. The games for Stetson this weekend will be the first of the year for the Hatters.

UP NEXT
FIU continues the road swing next weekend, as the Panthers take part in the FAU Invitational on March 5-6. FIU will face Illinois State, Pittsburgh and Coastal Carolina in Boca Raton.
