FIU Named Reveal Suits National Team of the Week by FWAA

DALLAS (Nov. 25, 2019) – FIU was announced as the Reveal Suits National Team of the Week by the Football Writers Association of America, the organization announced on Monday afternoon.

The announcement came during “Playbook” on ESPNU Radio SiriusXM. Each Monday during the season the Reveal Suits National Team of the Week will be unveiled during the program, which airs weekdays from 1-4 p.m. ET. The FWAA’s All-America Committee selects the weekly winner and all Division I FBS and FCS schools are eligible to be selected. For the full release, visit here

This is the first time for FIU to earn the Team of the Week honor.

FIU defeated Miami (Fla.) on Saturday night at Marlins Park, as the Panthers took a 30-24 decision over the Hurricanes at the historic former site of the Orange Bowl Stadium. FIU led UM from start-to-finish on Saturday night, as the Panthers became bowl eligible for a school-record third straight season.

The Panthers jumped out to a 16-0 lead to start, before the Hurricanes finally managed to score. Anthony Jones put the game on ice late in the fourth quarter, as the running back sprinted down the sideline for a 37-yard score to put the Panthers up 30-17. After a failed onside attempt, James Morgan and the Panthers formed the victory formation to kneel down and seal the 30-24 win over the Hurricanes.

The Football Writers Association of America has named a national team of the week since the 2002 season. In addition to the members of the FWAA All-America Committee, one fan vote from Twitter decides the weekly honor.

Founded in 1941, the Football Writers Association of America consists of 1,400 men and women who cover college football. The membership includes journalists, broadcasters and publicists, as well as key executives in all the areas that involve the game. The FWAA works to govern areas that include game-day operations, major awards and its annual All-America team.
