FIU Football News: Joseph Named C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week

MIAMI (Sept. 28, 2020) – After his breakout performance to open the 2020 season, FIU football’s Lexington Joseph was named the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon. The honor for Joseph is the first of the sophomore’s young career.

Lexington “Flex” Joseph opened FIU’s 2020 campaign with a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, as the sophomore tied a school record in the process and put the Panthers up 7-0 at Liberty last Saturday. Overall, the Miami native finished the game with 255 yards in kickoff returns, earning a 42.5 average per return, which ranks fourth in the nation. The 100-yard return is tied for the longest in the nation this season, while Joseph’s 255 yards are the most in a single game so far in 2020.

After opening the season last weekend, Joseph and the Panthers will have a bye week this weekend. FIU returns back to action on Saturday, Oct. 10 as the Panthers host Middle Tennessee for Homecoming. The game will be aired on ESPNU and kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET.
