Fernandez Announces Signing of Five-Star Recruit Tsineke

USF women’s basketball signed Elena Tsineke, a 5-foot-7 guard from Thessaloniki, Greece, a five-star recruit by PassionHoops and BlueStar Europe

TAMPA, June 7, 2019 – Head coach Jose Fernandez has announced the newest signee to the USF women’s basketball program, Elena Tsineke from Thessaloniki, Greece. Tsineke is a five-star recruit, rated by PassionHoops and BlueStar Europe.

“Elena’s ability to get to the basket and put pressure on the defense will complement our outside game,” Fernandez said. “Add in her ability to play off of the ball, Elena is going to give us depth across a lot of positions.”

The 5-foot-7 guard has signed to play for the Bulls and will join the roster for the 2019 season. Tsineke is an experienced international player, earning a spot on Greece’s U18 National Team, and playing in the 2017 FIBA U18 Women’s European Championship. She has played with club team Niki Lefkadas, a premier club team in Greece. She will play with Greece’s U20 national team and senior national team this year.

In the 2017 FIBA U18 European Championship, she amassed 21.1 points per game through seven games. She added 5.6 rebounds per game and 3.7 assists per game. In 2018, she participated in the EuroCup Women, where she played in one game with Greece. She scored 13 points, picked up four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block to rack up an impressive stat line.
