FB: 2019 All-Conference Teams

DALLAS – Conference USA announced its 2019 All-Conference football teams today, as selected by the league’s 14 head football coaches.  Nine of the 14 schools placed at least one player on the first team, with Marshall producing a league-high eight selections, followed by C-USA Champion Florida Atlantic with five and WKU with four.  Marshall had the most combined first and second-team members with 11, followed by Louisiana Tech with eight and Southern Miss and WKU with seven apiece.  
 
The eight Marshall first team selections include two from the Thundering Herd offense and three each from their defense and special teams.  Sophomore RBBrenden Knox leads C-USA with 1,284 rushing yards and has run for 11 touchdowns, while running behind an offensive line led by senior Levi Brown.   Senior LB Tavante Beckett leads C-USA and is tied for 15th nationally with 114 tackles, DT Channing Hames has 34 tackles, 2.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss, and DB Chris Jackson is third in the conference with 12 passes defended.  Junior K Justin Rohrwasser has the top field goal percentage in C-USA at .850 (17-of-20), while scoring 85 points.  PR Talik Keaton posts a league-best 12.0 average with one return for a TD, while senior LS Matt Beardall earned first team All-Conference honors for the second straight season.
 
Four of Florida Atlantic’s five first team choices came on offense, led by senior TEHarrison Bryant, who leads all FBS tight ends in receptions (61) and yards (1,004), while scoring seven touchdowns.  A pair of Owls offensive lineman (graduate Junior Diaz and senior Brandon Walton) were honored, along with sophomore QB Chris Robison, the C-USA Championship Game MVP who has thrown for 3,396 yards and 26 touchdowns and only six interceptions.
 
WKU’s four selections are led by junior DE DeAngelo Malone, who is second in the conference in sacks (11.5) and third nationally in tackles for loss (21.0), while registering 90 tackles.  Senior WR Lucky Jackson (league-high 77 catches for 985 yards) and senior RT Miles Pate represent the offense, while P John Haggerty (C-USA-leading 46.1 avg.) is on from special teams.
 
Both Charlotte and Southern Miss had three first team selections.  Senior RB Benny LeMay (1,037 rushing yards, 13 total touchdowns), senior OL Cameron Clark and senior DE Alex Highsmith (second in the FBS in sacks with 14.0 and tackles for loss with 21.5) appear for the 49ers.  The Golden Eagles produced junior WR Quez Watkins (ninth in the FBS with a C-USA-leading 102.4 yards per game), DB DQ Thomas (68 tackles, 1.0 TFL’s, three interceptions) and sophomore KR Jaylond Adams (30.8 avg. with two returns for touchdowns) for the squad.
 
Louisiana Tech and UAB each had a pair of first-teamers.  Senior QB J’Mar Smith(league-best 281.4 yards per game with 17 TD passes and just 4 interceptions) and junior CB Amik Robertson (second in FBS with 19 passes defended and sixth with five interceptions) are the Bulldogs selections.  The Blazers list senior DTGarrett Marino (6.0 sacks, 12.5 tackles for loss, 5 pass breakups) and senior LBKristopher Moll (96 tackles, 9.0 sacks, four forced fumbles).
 
North Texas and Rice each produced one first team selection.  The Mean Green are represented by junior WR Jaelon Darden, who led C-USA with 12 receiving touchdowns and had 76 total receptions, while the Owls list junior LB Blaze Alldredge, who had at least one tackle for loss in the final 10 games and totaled 21.5 to tie for second among all FBS players.
 
Louisiana Tech produced the most second-team designations with six, while Southern Miss had four. 
 
The league’s individual awards will be released Wednesday, December 11.  Conference USA will conclude the 2019 season by sending eight teams to bowl games, the second-most in league history.
