FAU Strikes Early in 4-1 Win Over UTEP

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University Owl softball team used a quick start to down Conference USA foe UTEP 4-1 on Saturday night.

The Owls (27-13 overall, 9-4 C-USA) scored two runs in the bottom of the first and added additional runs in the second and fifth innings, while riding the arm of starting pitcher Gabby Sacco for the win.

Sacco improved to 16-3 on the season after holding UTEP (11-23 overall, 2-11 C-USA) to five hits, allowing ust one earned run. Sacco struck out three and issued no walks.

SERIES GAME ONE

Cammeo Presutti opened the bottom of the first with a single. She moved to second on a single by Jesiana Mora and the duo scored on a two-out error by the Miners.

The Owls’ third run was courtesy of a Riley Olson homer that she roped to dead center. UTEP scored its lone run in the top of the fourth and FAU responded in the bottom of the fifth with a two out single by Caryssa Orland followed by a Riley Ennis RBI double.

NOTES/NOTABLE

  • Olivia Peterson and Mora were the two Owls with multiple hits, both going 2-for-4 on the night
  • All but two starting Owls recorded a hit versus UTEP
  • Sacco earned the complete game victory and moved to 16-3

NEXT UP

The two teams will return to the field Sunday morning for a doubleheader that is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
