FAU Softball Walks Off Again Over Michigan State

BOCA RATON, Fla. – It was feeling like Déjà vu at FAU on Saturday night.

For the second night in a row, the Florida Atlantic University softball team defeated Michigan State with a walk-off win. Both games were decided by a 2-1 final score, that ended with the Owls walking it off in the seventh inning.

Tonight, Michigan State and FAU (6-8) each scored in the first inning, and that was all of the action until the bottom of the seventh.

Zoey Jones began the seventh with a base hit to shortstop. Jones was a hero in last night’s walk-off win with the tying triple to right field in the seventh inning. After Maya Amm grounded into a fielder’s choice which got the lead runner, Olivia Peterson banged an infield hit off the Michigan State pitcher Ashley Miller.

Maddie Carlock entered as a pinch runner for Amm, and with Sommer Baker at bat, Carlock advanced to third with some heads-up base running. The Spartan catcher dropped the ball trying to frame an outside pitch, and Carlock wasted no time to take third.

With two on and one out, Baker put the ball in play right to the MSU shortstop. The throw home beat Carlock, yet the catcher couldn’t hang on and make the tag, so FAU prevailed with the wild walk-off win for the second night in a row.
