FAU Ends North Texas’ Record Winning Streak

DENTON, Texas – On Sunday afternoon, the Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer team snapped North Texas’ record conference winning streak. The Mean Green had not lost a conference game at home since Oct. 31, 2008, which was an NCAA Division I record 65-game streak. FAU put an end to that on Sunday. The Owls defeated the Mean Green 1-0 for the historic victory in the 2022 Conference USA opener.

The Owls took command of the match right away with a score less than five minutes in. Gi Krstec tallied her third goal in the last three games to give FAU an early lead. Bri Austin sent in a cross to a crowded box that bounced aroud and eventually found Kaylin Johnston. Johnston played it back to Krstec who buried it for her fourth of the year.

QUOTES FROM COACH BAKER

“This was a tremendous result for us,” head coach Patrick Baker said. “North Texas is extremely hard to play against, with the talent and team that they have, not only this year, but historically. To have our first game in conference play be at North Texas was not an inviting part of the schedule. We scored early which is fantastic, then dealt with the wind in the first half before having it with us in the second half. We had great clock management at the end of the game. We’re pleased for our girls, pleased for our program, but most importantly happy to start conference play with a win.”
