FAU Blanks Louisiana Tech in Conference USA Opener

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team defeated Louisiana Tech, 3-0, in the 2022 Conference USA opener on Friday night.

The Owls improve their record to 12-13 with the victory. The win also pulls head coach Joan Joyce to within three of 1,000 wins on her career. Joyce is looking to become just the 25th coach in NCAA Division I history and the 40th coach across all divisions to hit the 1,000-win plateau.

Lynn Gardner paved the way with her fourth complete game shutout of the season. The senior lefty struck out five and scattered six hits across the seven innings. She has now gone the distance in nine out of her 10 starts this season and stands at 6-4 with a 2.41 ERA.

Zoey Jones provided the first two runs of the game with a two-out RBI double down the left field line. With two gone in the third, Jones tucked one just inside the line which scored Cammeo Presutti and Sara Berthiaume. Jones has been swinging the bat well of late, as she is now 9-25 (.360) with eight RBI, three doubles and a home run in her last nine games.
