FAU Begins Georgia Southern Work Week

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University’s football team (5-1, 4-1 C-USA) hit the field Tuesday morning with spirit in their steps and focus in their eyes, ready to enjoy the cooler temperatures and with the knowledge that two games remain on their schedule and that none are guaranteed, so embrace the day.

The Owls, who have been working non-stop since early July, hope to play into deep December. Next up, they are next scheduled to play Georgia Southern (6-4, 4-3 Sun Belt) at 6 p.m. Saturday. Owl fans can then watch Saturday’s game on ESPN+ or listen to the broadcast on Fox Sports South Florida 640 AM.
Coordinators’ CornerCo-Offensive Coordinator Drew Mehringer
“Those guys [Georgia Southern] play really, really hard and when you are looking at a team that does that and is fundamentally sound in what they do and they are not all over the place, you can see why they have been a good team and a tough team to beat week-in and-week-out each year. They are going to want to stop the run and we are going to have to be able to throw it when we need to throw it. I think too in this game, (when) you look at what they do offensively, we are going to have to find ways to make sure we stay on the field as well. They manage the clock well. Opponents haven’t gotten a ton of possessions so we are going to have to capitalize on those and when we take our shots down the field we are going to have to connect.”

Redshirt Senior Running Back James Charles
“I always tell the guys anytime you go on the road you have to pack your run game and you have to pack your defense. If we do that, we will be all right. This whole team is competitors. People that love to get after it. That is the thing I love about this team – we love to come to work. We love to have the opportunity to play on Saturday, Fridays, whenever the game is, we like to play ball here at FAU.” This week’s Owls’ Burrow, host and producer Frank Forte will focus on the upcoming game versus Georgia Southern and the interesting challenges the Eagles present. Redshirt junior wide receiver Brandon Robinson will be introduced in the “Pads Off” segment, while senior defensive end Ryan Veingrad will also be featured. In celebration of FAU’s 20th season, Forte looks back at quarterback Jason Driskel’s 2017 heroics over two games, when he had a four-TD passing performance and followed it with another game rushing for four scores. The show will close with a look at the Schmidt Family Complex which houses a portion of the FAU business school, the FAU Athletics Academic Center and the FAU football offices, as well as the team’s strength and conditioning facilities. This week’s show will air on Fox Sports Florida on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4 at 11:30 a.m. and again at 8 p.m., and the final airing will be Saturday, Dec. 5 at 11 a.m.
