BOCA RATON, Fla. – Individual honors for Florida Atlantic University baseball continue to be handed out, as on Tuesday, Nolan Schanuel was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week by the league office.
Schanuel, a true freshman, had a tremendous start to his collegiate career this past weekend, with three multi-hit, multi-RBI games in a series win over No. 24 UCF. In the opener, and his debut, he was 3-for-4 with two singles, a double and four RBI, batting in the three-hole in the Owls’ lineup. The following day, he hit his first college home run as part of a 2-for-5 game, added his second double, three runs scored, and two more knocked in. And not to be outdone on Sunday, the Boynton Beach, Florida native was 3-for-4, with two singles, a double, a run scored and two RBI.
All told, Schanuel recorded three doubles, a home run, eight RBI and four runs scored, and a slash line of .533 (8-for-15)/.588/.933. A converted outfielder playing first base for the first time, he was flawless defensively in 25 total chances, including multiple diving plays, and an assist at home plate.
Schanuel and the Owls are soon on their way to Fort Myers to take on Florida Gulf Coast tonight, Tuesday, at 6:30 p.m. This weekend, the team hosts Seton Hall for a three-game series, at 6:30 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and noon on Sunday.
