TUNE-UP TILT The Panthers and Lightning’s exhibition contest at Scotiabank Arena marks the fifth time the two clubs have played each other in an exhibition game at a neutral site and the first time they’ve done so outside of the Sunshine State. The Cats and Bolts have matched up previously for exhibition at Amway Center (2018 – Orlando, Fla.), Germain Arena (2013 – Estero, Fla.), Orlando Arena (1996 – Orlando, Fla.) and Lakeland Civic Center (1993 – Lakeland, Fla.).

FAMILIAR FOE FLA faced off against TBL in their final three preseason exhibition games prior to the 2019-20 regular season, posting a 1-1-1 record in those games. During the season, FLA had a 1-3-0 record in four contests against their cross-state rival. The Panthers’ lone win came on their home opening night at BB&T Center on Oct 5. Mike Hoffman recorded the first home-opener hat trick in Panthers history, including the game-winning goal, leading the Cats to a 4-3 win.

HIGH-POWERED PANTHERS The Cats finished the 2019-20 regular season with the sixth-most goals for (228) and goals per game (3.30) among NHL teams and owned the 10th-best power play (tied with MIN). Five different FLA skaters finished with 20+ goals: Hoffman (29), Dadonov (25), Huberdeau (23), Acciari/Barkov (20), a feat only matched by WPG. The Cats owned a 2-0-1 record over their last three games of the season including a 2-1 victory over the Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues in their final game of the regular season.

LIGHTNING WARNING Tampa Bay finished the 2019-20 regular season with 92 points (43-21-6), tied for third-most by an NHL team prior to the pause. They scored the most goals of any NHL team (243) and their +50 goal differential ranked second only behind BOS. Their 23.1 power-play success rate was tied for fifth-best with TOR. Reigning 2018-19 Hart Memorial and Art Ross Trophy winner TBL forward

Nikita Kucherov’s 85 points (33-52-85) were seventh-most by an NHLer this season, and for the third consecutive season, reigning 2018-19 Vezina Trophy winner Andrei Vasilevskiy led the NHL in wins (35). His .917 save percentage was the second-highest among goaltenders with at least 50 games played. The Lightning finished the 2019-20 campaign with a 3-6-1 record in their final 10 regular season games.

POSTSEASON REMATCH The Panthers return to the postseason for the first time since 2016, when they faced the New York Islanders in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Cats fell to the Islanders in six games (2-4) in that series. Aleksander Barkov (2-1-3), Aaron Ekblad (0-1-1), Jonathan Huberdeau (1-2-3) and Mike Matheson (0-1-1) all played for the Panthers during the 2016 playoffs.

FINAL FRONTIER Brian Boyle (114) and Anton Stralman (104) each have played over 100 Stanley Cup Playoff games and have each reached the Stanley Final twice together (2014 – NYR, 2015 – TBL). Additionally, the Panthers possess three players who have reached the Stanley Cup Final over the last two seasons: Noel Acciari (2019 – BOS), Erik Haula (2018 – VGK), and Brett Connolly (2018 – won with WSH).

MAKING FRANCHISE HISTORY Jonathan Huberdeau and Aleksander Barkov each moved up the Panthers franchise scoring lists in 2019-20. Huberdeau set the all-time franchise records in assists (289) and points (437), moving into sole possession of fifth place in goals scored (148). Barkov sits behind Huberdeau in franchise assists (252), and has recorded the third-most goals (155) and points (407) in Panthers history.

LIKE MIKE Mike Hoffman led the Panthers in goals scored for the second straight season, tallying 29 over 69 games played. He also led the team in shots on goal (214). The Kitchener, Ontario, native tied for the longest goal streak on FLA this season, scoring in a career-high five straight contests from Feb. 20-29. His 11 power-play goals were tied for the team lead with Evgenii Dadonov, and his 21 power-play points were tied with Keith Yandle for second-most on the club. With 59 points (29-30-59), it was Hoffman’s fifth consecutive season with at least 50 points and 30 assists, and his sixth straight with over 20 goals.

JONNY B. GOOD Jonathan Huberdeau led the Panthers in assists (55), points (78), even-strength points (49), and power-play points (29) in 2019-20. The Saint-Jerome, Quebec, native’s 55 assists ranked seventh- most among NHLers and his 78 points were tied for 10th-most. The 27-year-old recorded four separate four-point

performances, setting the franchise record for most in a season. He also made his All-Star Game debut for the Cats in St. Louis.

OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN Aleksander Barkov ranked second on the Cats in assists (42), points (62), even-strength points (41), and shots (172) in 2019-20. The 24-year-old led all FLA forwards in TOI per game (20:01) and takeaways (51), while posting a career high faceoff win percentage (54.28 – led FLA). 2019-20 marked the third consecutive season where the Tampere, Finland native recorded at least 40 assists and 60 points.

HIGHWAY BOBBERY Sergei Bobrovsky made his Panthers debut in 2019-20, leading the team in games played (50), wins (23), and saves (1,354). The Novokuznetsk, Russia, native posted a 23-19-6 record, including an eight-game point streak (5-0-3) in eight starts from Oct. 11-Nov. 2. He recorded his first shutout as a Panther Nov. 2 vs. DET, and his first win as a Panther came on the Cats’ home opening night, Oct. 5 vs. TBL.

FRESH FACES Acquired at the trade deadline from CAR, new Panthers Erik Haula and Lucas Wallmark each played seven games for FLA before the pause. Haula recorded two assists (0-2-2) and Wallmark posted two points (1-1-2), including a goal against MTL on March 7.

NOEL’S GOALS Noel Acciari set career-bests in goals (20), points (27), shots (108), and shooting percentage (18.5) in his first season with FLA. The Johnston, RI, native also led the team in game-winning goals (5), even-strength goals (19), and hits (121), and led all NHL forwards in blocked shots (103), the third-most by an NHL forward in a season since the stat began being recorded in 2005-06. He became just the second Panther in franchise history (joining Pavel Bure) to record back-to- back hat tricks, by tallying a trio against OTT on Dec. 16 and then again against DAL on Dec. 20.

His 40 assists were tied for fifth-most by an NHL D-man this season, and his 177 assists as a Panther are the second-most in franchise history by a defenseman. The native of Boston, Mass., is the NHL’s active “Iron Man” streak leader, having played in 866 straight contests.
