Eriksen Adds Two Transfers to 2020 Roster

The USF Softball program announces the addition of transfer students Camryn Dolby from Boston College and Aliyah “AJ” Carter from Hillsborough Community College for the 2020 season

TAMPA AUG. 23, 2019 — USF Softball Head Coach Ken Eriksen has announced the additions of two transfer students to his 2020 roster.  RHP Camryn Dolby joins the Bulls after a year at Boston College, while catcher Aliyah “AJ” Carter comes to USF after time at the College of Central Florida and Hillsborough Community College.

Camryn Dolby | Round Hill, Va. | Boston College | Woodgrove HS

As a freshman with the BC Eagles last season, Dolby found success on the mound as both a starter and reliever. She earned her first collegiate victory against Michigan and followed it up with her first ACC win over Syracuse on March 22.

Dolby’s most dominant performance of the year came in April as she threw a one-hitter and struck out 11 in a 4-0 win against Fairfield. Overall, Dolby went 10-10 in 2019, adding 116 strikeouts in 101 innings pitched. She led the Boston College pitching staff with 10 wins and an opposing batting average of .237.

In high school, Dolby was a four-year starter at Woodgrove High School and set the Virginia state record with 15.9 strikeouts per game as a sophomore. In her prep career, she had an ERA of 0.54 in 485 innings pitched. She was a two-time Virginia state player of the year and led her school to three consecutive state championships from 2016 to 2018. In her junior year, she threw eight no-hitters and 19 shutouts en route to a perfect 23-0 season.

“I am extremely excited to have another established quality pitcher consider USF as a landing spot,” Head Coach Ken Eriksen said. “We have had tremendous success in having pitchers transfer to USF and elevate not only their game but also our successes. Camryn is a natural “feel” pitcher that has a desire to compete against the best. I look forward to her growth over the next three years working with Coach Jess Moore.”

Aliyah “AJ” Carter | Brownsburn, IN | Hillsborough CC | Riverview HS (Fla.)

Carter is a local product who spent a year with Hillsborough Community College and a year with the College of Central Florida before joining the Bulls. In her two years at junior colleges, the catcher amassed a .295 batting average with 13 home runs and 54 RBIs.

At HCC, Carter finished second on the team in slugging percentage while leading the team in both home runs and RBIs. In 136 at-bats, she hit .287/.409/.551 with 11 HRs, 42 RBIs and scoring 29 times.

Carter moved to Tampa from Indiana in 2014. In Tampa, she attended Riverview High School before starting her collegiate career.

“To have a catcher with the athleticism and with two years of college ball knowledge join our talented team is surely a benefit,” Eriksen said. “AJ is a local player that has decided to compete in her hometown area and we couldn’t be more thankful for that. Carter has a diverse staff to learn right out of the gate but that makes it fun knowing that we do have a deep talented pitching staff. AJ already adds to a very talented array of pitchers and catchers at USF. Her bat will definitely help in the middle of the line-up.”
