MELBOURNE, Fla. – Emily Trieschmann, a five-time NCAA Division II National Champion, has been honored as the 2022-23 Sunshine State Conference Female Athlete of the Year. Trieschmann becomes the first women’s swimmer to win the award, since it was established in 1987-88.
Voting for the award is conducted among Athletic Directors, Senior Woman Administrators, Athletic Communication Directors, and Faculty Athletic Representatives from each of the 11 SSC member institutions.
In addition to being the Sunshine State Conference Athlete of the Year, Emily was also recognized as the CSCAA National Swimmer of the Year and the SSC Swimmer of the Year. Trieschmann is also a finalist for the DII Honda Athlete of the Year.
In her first season at Nova Southeastern, Trieschmann set numerous SSC and NCAA national records, while winning five national titles and five Sunshine State Conference championships. The sophomore holds the national record in the 1000-free (9:43.25) and was a member of the record-breaking 800-relay team, which swam a 7:12.56 at the SSC Championships.
Trieschmann owns the SSC Championship records in the 500-free (4:46.29), the 1000-free (9:43.69), and the 1650-free (16:31.90). At the SSC Championships, Trieschmann won five events, as she helped the Sharks set the meet record with 1,041 points. She then went on to win five events at the National Championships (500-free, 1000-free, 1650-free, 800-free relay, and 200-medley relay), as she helped the Sharks win their first NCAA title in program history.
Trieschmann becomes the third Nova Southeastern student-athlete to be honored as SSC Female Athlete of the Year. She joins golfers Abbey Gittings (2011-12) and Sandra Changkija (2009-10 & 2010-11). She is the first swimming student-athlete to win the Female Athlete of the Year since the award was established in 1987-88.
