Early Struggles for the Bolts

By Byron Richmond

Thank god it’s only the first week of the season fellow Bolt fans because the last two games just haven’t been your normal Bolts games. In the last two games the defense has surrendered eight points to two potential bottom dwellers in the East and just hasn’t protected Vasilesky well enough to help them win.

This is the first time since the 2017-2018 season that the Bolts have dropped back to back games in Toronto 4-3 and and Buffalo 5-3. This game against the Hurricanes was a hard one to swallow because in the 11 shots they had on net in the first period, three of them went in and that was it for the Bolts the rest of the night. It’s just hard to fathom that in over 40 minutes of play we were only able to get two shots on net and get outshot 44-13.

Penalties was indeed a problem in both of these losses as they have a total of ten over the last two with four power play goals being scored and to me fans that doesn’t lead to winning hockey.

I hate to say this but from what I’m seeing so far is when the offense doesn’t click the defense faulters where we give up easy goals and rely on Vasi to much to save us. Now with these two losses does this mean we have cause for concern, maybe, maybe not it’s still to early to tell in the season but I’m confident we can figure this out and rebound from these two horrible losses. We just need to defend better and pull off better shots against the opponents to give Vasi a break.
