ARLINGTON, Texas – The extraordinary drumming team rePercussion will headline the Opening Ceremony of the 2019 Junior Gold Championships presented by the Brands of Ebonite International later this month in Detroit.
The Junior Gold Championships is the pinnacle event for the nation’s top youth bowlers, who will compete for national titles in four divisions – 12-and-under, 15-and-under, 17-and-under and 20-and-under. The event, which runs from July 13-20 and has sold more than 4,700 spots, will take place in eight bowling centers throughout the metro Detroit area.
CBS Sports Network will televise the stepladder finals of each division and BowlTV.com will provide livestream coverage from selected centers throughout the week.
Eastern Michigan University’s Convocation Center will be the host venue of the Junior Gold Championships Opening Ceremony on Sunday, July 14. The state-by-state athlete parade, presentation of the 2018-2019 Dexter All-American Team and the Third Annual Bowlers Choice Awards, fun awards that give the youth bowlers the opportunity to express their personalities, will be part of the celebration.
rePercussion, which has performed for hundreds of thousands of people in venues around the world, will headline the Opening Ceremony. The engaging and entertaining interactive show is a blend of sight and sound that delivers a unique experience. rePercussion also has plans to set a world record during their performance.
The Opening Ceremony starts promptly at 7 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.). Athletes and spectators must wear their credentials (badge and lanyard) to get in the doors.
Junior Gold Championships presenting sponsor the Brands of Ebonite International once again will kick off the day’s festivities with EBI Game Day starting at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 14, at Eastern Michigan’s football stadium. Youth bowlers will have the opportunity to engage with members of the EBI team in a fun environment.

Ebonite International also will host the EBI Demo Day and Bowl with the Pros event on Friday, July 12, at Super Bowl Lanes. Junior Gold participants can register online for both EBI events at BOWL.com/JGSpecialEvents.
The Suburban Collection Showplace convention center will be the starting point for the Junior Gold Championships, with athlete registration and the annual trade show starting Saturday, July 13. Of the 90 vendors that will be exhibiting at the trade show, there are more than 60 college organizations that will be part of the Collegiate Experience, where bowlers and their parents can talk to representatives and learn about what it takes to bowl collegiately.
Athletes will have the opportunity to attend informative seminars, featuring some of bowling’s top coaches, including Del Warren, the vice president of Kegel Training Center and a United States Bowling Congress Gold coach. Warren will discuss lane patterns and building an arsenal suited for different bowling styles.
USBC Gold coach Stephen Padilla, the USBC Director of Coaching Certification, will have a seminar for two-handed bowlers on advanced adjustments and techniques to improve a player’s approach and lane-play strategy, and USBC Lane Pattern Development consultant Nick Hoagland’s seminar will explain how to read an oil pattern, even without a graph.
The Junior Gold Championships is one of several youth bowling events taking place over 10 days in the Detroit area.
The USA Bowling National Championships is a team competition of 16 U15 teams and 16 U12 teams that qualified through regional competitions. Qualifying to set the bracket for match play will be held Thursday, July 11, with match-play rounds on Friday, July 12, at Astro Lanes to determine the finalists for the TV show. The finals in both divisions will take place Friday, July 19, at Thunderbowl Lanes, and will be taped for broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
The Bowling.com Youth Open Championships is a non-qualifying tournament open to all USBC Youth bowlers. The event has competition in singles, doubles and four-person team, and will be held July 11-12, 19-21, and 27-28 at Sterling Lanes.
The Survivor Tournament presented by Hammer is July 19 and 20 at Super Bowl Lanes. Each participant will bowl five games across 10 lanes, and the event is a 2020 Junior Gold Championships Qualifying Event.
