DETROIT, Mich. (July 8, 2024) – The Detroit Pistons announced today that the team has signed forward Tobias Harris to a contract. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Harris, 6-8, 230, is a 13-year NBA veteran and has appeared in 897 career games (777 starts) with career averages of 16.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 0.8 steals while shooting 47.8% from the field and 36.8% from 3-point range. In 61 career playoff games, Harris has averaged 16.3 points (.471 FG%), 8.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 37.1 minutes per game.
A native of Islip, N.Y., Harris most recently completed six seasons (2019-24) with the Philadelphia 76ers where he averaged 17.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists while shooting 48.8% from the field and 36.9% from 3-point range in 378 games. Last season, Harris appeared in 70 games and averaged 17.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 33.8 minutes per game. Harris helped the 76ers to the Eastern Conference Playoffs in all six of his seasons with Philadelphia.
Harris returns to Detroit where he spent three seasons from 2016 to 2018 and led the Pistons to the Eastern Conference Playoffs in 2016. In 157 career games with Detroit, he averaged 16.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 32.1 minutes per game. Harris was acquired on Feb. 16, 2016, in exchange for Ersan Ilyasova and Brandon Jennings. On Jan. 29, 2018, he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Blake Griffin, Brice Johnson and Willie Reed, where he spent two seasons from 2018 to 2019.
A first-round selection in the 2011 NBA Draft (19th overall), Harris started his NBA career with the Milwaukee Bucks (2011-13) and then played four seasons with the Orlando Magic (2013-2016). Prior to the NBA, Harris played one season at the University of Tennessee where he was named Second-Team All-SEC, SEC All-Freshman Team and USBWA Second-Team Freshman All-America.
