DETROIT PISTONS AND BRILLIANT DETROIT TO HOST HARVEST CELEBRATION BLOCK PARTY IN ISLANDVIEW IN CELEBRATION OF NBA 75th ANNIVERSARY LEGACY PROJECT

Pistons Players Cory Joseph and Buddy Boeheim to take part in Ribbon Cutting in front of soon-to-be renovated Community Hub at 2 p.m.

DETROIT – To celebrate the launch of their partnership surrounding the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Legacy Project, the Detroit Pistons and Brilliant Detroit are hosting a Harvest Celebration in the Islandview neighborhood of Detroit on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 1-4 p.m. The celebration will include a special ribbon cutting in front of the soon-to-be renovated community hub at 2 p.m. including Detroit Pistons players Cory Joseph and Buddy Boeheim as well as Trunk or Treating, face painting, pumpkin decorating, and a bounce house with live Pistons entertainment.

At the start of the 2021-22 season, the NBA announced a league-wide initiative to create and dedicate more than 50 new Live, Learn or Play Centers during the 2021-22 season across the country. The Pistons selected Brilliant Detroit as the grantee recipient for this project, and have recently kicked off the renovation of a vacant house that will be turned into a central community hub and gathering place for local families.

Joining the Pistons and Brilliant Detroit in this initiative is Priority Health, who will be donating 10,000 diapers to the hub and United Wholesale Mortgage whose contributions will help build a 3-on-3 Court, providing a space where all members of the neighborhood can gather and exercise in a welcoming and safe environment. Additionally, Wallside Windows will be providing windows for the new Islandview hub, and Detroit2Nepal is also providing funding for the site.

Brilliant Detroit is dedicated to building kid success families and neighborhoods where families with children have what they need to be school ready, healthy, and stable. Brilliant Detroit does this by providing proven programming and support year-round out of Brilliant Detroit hub in underserved neighborhoods in Detroit.
