Detroit Looks Broken

By: Jeremy T. Ballreich

On October 23rd, 2022 the Lions went to Arlington, Texas to face the Cowboys. The defense put up a valiant effort. Making stops, getting pressure on Dakota Rayne Prescott. Who again, did not have a great game. But did enough not to lose the game. The return of Cominsky, coupled with the rookie debut of 2nd round pick Josh Paschal looked every bit as good as we thought they’d be. The biggest boon to the defense was the healthy scratch of Michael Brockers just before game time. Jeff Okudah keeps.proving he was worth a top 3 pick repeatedly this year. Leading the team in tackles. Kerby Joseph our 3rd round pick at Safety had a decent game. Even Amani Orunwariye had a good game. And because of the defense looking improved, coupled with Aidan Hutchinson being moved to OLB. Low and behold. The rookie defensive sack leader is Hitch after having another 2 sack game!

Offensively, there wasn’t that much good to speak of, other than because we took the points (Hallelujah), it looks like we have a kicker! They failed for a 2nd game in a row to score an offensive TD. Chark was out, Swift was held out, Amon-Ra St.  Brown went down due to a concussion in the first quarter. With our top offensive weapons not playing. It looked like a daunting task to be effective. And low and behold it was.

Just one week. I would love to be able to have good game on both sides of the ball. These guys looked like they are trying to get on the same page. They just cannot seem to do it. Which is why I say Detroit looks broken right now. Every week there is some type of colossal failure in one of the 3 phases of the game.

For four weeks until the playmakers started getting hurt on offense. The offense was good but the defense was bad, and special teams (mostly FG kicking) was bad. Then the Patriots game, ugh. This past week, still without playmakers Swift, Chatk, then lost Amon-Ra St. Brown in the first quarter to a concussion. It looked like we need them back in the line up to be effective at all. 2 games no TDs. Again this is the 2nd year of a rebuild. The lack of talent depth is evident.
