Get ready Detroit. The thrills, spills and chills of IndyCar Racing is back on the streets of downtown.
Televised nationally by FOX Sports (locally on channel 2) the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear is May 29-21 surrounding the RenCen, Hart Plaza, RiverWalk and other popular Jefferson, Bates, Atwater and adjacent streets. FOX is sending play-by-play announcer Will Buxton and analysts James Hinchcliffe and Townsend Bell. Jack Harvey, Georgia Henneberry and Kevin Lee report from pit row.
The NTT IndyCar standings (through May 12) find Alex Palou atop with 237 points (3 wins and 1 second), Kyle Kirkwood is next with 1 win and 210 points while David Malukas has 185 points and Christian Lundgaard at 182 following his May 9th win at Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s road course for the Sonsio Grand Prix.
2026 marks the 36th Grand Prix event in the city of Detroit’s history. The challenging 1.7-mile, 9-turn circuit will test all the drivers and teams. There are smooth stretches and some rough ones. All in all, race organizers and the city do a solid job preparing a normal downtown section into a world-class race course. And fans have many viewing options from which to select from. Free viewing sites are also available.
The weekend also includes the sports cars of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar and the IndyNXT by Firestone. Racing Hall of Famer Roger Penske of Detroit, fields multiple drivers and teams in all the races.
Fans and families can enjoy musical entertainment, food trucks, refreshments, autograph sessions, games, and more during the three days. Tickets are still available at www.DetroitGP.com/Tickets, by calling 888-811-7749. Maps, parking and other information may be viewed at www.DetroitGP.com.
