CUSA FB: Sept. 18 Players of the Week (Monday, Sept. 18, 2023)

DALLAS – After totaling six touchdowns and 410 yards of total offense in a road win at Buffalo, Liberty QB Kaidon Salter was voted CUSA Offensive Player of the Week. MTSU LB Sam Brumfield took home Defensive Player of the Week honors following a standout performance with 13 tackles, and 1.5 tackles for loss on Saturday in the Blue Raiders’ win over Murray State. New Mexico State K Ethan Albertson was named CUSA Special Teams Player of the Week after connecting on a pair of field goals and going a perfect 3-3 on extra points in the Aggies’ win over rival New Mexico. The 2023 CUSA Players of the Week awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear and are voted on by a panel of the league’s media.

Salter posted his first career 300-yard passing game, completing 16-26 passes for 344 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions in the Flames’ 55-27 win at Buffalo. He also added 10 carries for 66 yards and another score in the win at Buffalo. His career-best five passing touchdowns were the most for a Flames quarterback in a game since 2020. Salter has led the Flames to a 3-0 start and was a catalyst for the offense that rolled up 569 yards of total offense and 55 points in the win.

Brumfield tallied a career-high 13 total tackles, 10 of which were solo, to go along with a sack, 1.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble in Middle Tennessee’s 35-14 win at home over Murray State. His previous career-high in tackles was five, set at Missouri the previous week. This also marked the second consecutive game where Brumfield has forced a fumble.

Albertson connected on field goals of 26 and 47 yards, while also making all three extra points during the Aggies’ 27-17 win at rival New Mexico on Saturday. His season-long 47-yarder put New Mexico State ahead by two scores in the third quarter and he moved into a tie for fourth place in program history in made field goals (33).
