CRAZY 8s: 8/8 (Aug. 8), MARKS THE 8th ANNUAL SUNSHINE HEALTH ORANGE BOWL FAMILY FUN & FIT DAY PRESENTED BY PNC BANK

This year’s event will be a drive-thru with food, backpacks, back-to-school and sanitation supplies to be distributed
Miami Lakes Fla. (orangebowl.org) – The 8th annual Sunshine Health Orange Bowl Family Fun & Fit Day presented by PNC Bank converts to a drive-thru event this year to ensure South Florida families can safely prepare for school during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Volunteers will be distributing food, sanitation items, backpacks and back-to-school necessities, while supplies last at the drive-thru only event, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 8, at Orange Bowl Field at Carter Park, 1450 W. Sunrise Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale.
“We felt it extremely important to find a way to provide these services and supplies despite the challenges 2020 is presenting,” said Orange Bowl Committee President and Chair Jeff E. Rubin. “We have adapted the event to ensure everyone’s safety, while continuing to meet the needs of those in the community.”
The event will comply with all local, state and federal guidelines regarding public gatherings.
Sunshine Health is once again the title sponsor of the event and will be issuing pencils, pencil holders, pencil sharpeners, rulers and more. PNC, the presenting sponsor, will distribute a variety of supplies and books with activities geared toward pre-K students, as well as backpacks. Additional backpacks are being provided by the College Football Playoff Foundation. Also handing out supplies are associate sponsors AutoNation, CBS4 and Hard Rock Stadium.
Attendees are encouraged to drive by the South Florida PBS booth to celebrate “Be My Neighbor Day” starring Fred Rogers Productions’ Daniel Tiger, also sponsored by PNC.
The Orange Bowl is partnering with The Pantry of Broward to provide meals for those in need during this event. The Orange Bowl has already distributed more than 3500 meals in response to the pandemic, at the Orange Bowl’s five legacy parks, all named Orange Bowl Field at: Moore Park in Miami, Ives Estates Park in Miami-Dade County, Carter Park in Fort Lauderdale, Harris Field Park in Homestead and Glades Pioneer Park in Belle Glade, Palm Beach County.
“We look forward to this annual event because of the opportunity to engage South Florida families and help children prepare for the upcoming school year,” said Rubin.
This is the second year the Sunshine Health Orange Bowl Family Fun & Fit Day presented by PNC Bank is being held at this location. Orange Bowl Field at Carter Park is located at 1450 W Sunrise Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311.
