A new COVID-19 test site is opening (Tuesday, August 3, 2021) in response to the latest rise in COVID-19 cases including the Delta Variant, which is increasing the demand for testing. Tests are available for both vaccinated and unvaccinated residents.

South Florida is being hit hard by COVID

South Florida is being hit hard by COVID-19. Hospitals in Broward and Miami-Dade counties admitted the most COVID patients of any counties in the United States in the past seven days. Each county had more than 800 patients, according to a White House report. South Florida hospitals have enacted surge plans.
Memorial Healthcare System set up triage tents outside its Emergency Departments and using conference to care for COVID patients. Broward Health and Cleveland Clinic Florida have begun converting regular rooms into COVID wards. Broward and Miami-Dade’s children’s hospitals are using the triage method to handle large numbers of patients in their emergency rooms and admitting the most severely ill patients.
Dr. Scott Ross, chief medical officer at Cleveland Clinic Weston said that his hospital placed an unvaccinated 19 year old on life support because of COVID. Nearly every health professional or government leader is pleading for everyone over age 12 to get a COVID vaccination.
COVID surges in Florida

On Saturday, the State of Florida reported 21,683 new COVID-19 cases to the Centers for Disease Control. This is more than any earlier day in the COVID-19 pandemic. The second worst day was Jan. 7, when 19,334 cases were reported and when daily case counts were usually more than 10,000. It was the second peak of the pandemic and then cases started to go down. Most of the people who are suffering from COVID-19 have not been vaccinated.
Florida sets new record for COVID cases

On Sunday, August 1, Florida broke a previous record for current hospitalizations that was set over year ago before vaccines were available. Florida reported 10,207 hospitalized with COVID-19 cases, according to the Centers of Disease Control.  The previous record was on July 23, 2020 about six months before vaccines were available. Then Florida had 10,170 hospitalizations. Florida is now leading the nation in per capita hospitalizations for COVID-19 and hospitals in Florida must put emergency room visitors in beds in hallways. Many of the patients are younger.  Gov. Ron DeSantis and most healthcare professionals are pleading with Florida residents to get the COVID vaccine. Almost all the people hospitalized with COVID-19 have never been vaccinated.
