USF defeated South Carolina 3-2 in the opening game of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., May 17, 2019 – USF’s Georgina Corrick tossed double-digit strikeouts for the tenth time this season in the Bulls’ 3-2 win over South Carolina in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional opener.
The Bulls (41-17) were on the board early with a run in the first inning when a fielders’ choice and four walks sent freshman Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hill, Md.) home. The Gamecocks (36-18) answered in the bottom of the frame with an RBI double to left center.
In the top of the third inning, senior Lindsey Devitt (Jacksonville, Fla.) hit a double that dropped perfectly in the corner in left field. She made it home on a sacrifice fly by junior Kelsey Lay (West Palm Beach, Fla.) to take the lead, 2-1. USF added a valuable insurance run in the fourth inning when Riley Gore (West Palm Beach, Fla.) wore a pitch and was eventually walked home.
In the fifth inning, South Carolina pushed across a run to bring the score within one, 3-2. The Gamecocks singled to get on base, and an RBI double to left field sent their runner home.
Sophomore Corrick fanned 11 batters in the win and walked just one. She limited the Gamecocks to just four hits in her 25th win of the season.
