Cooley Earns C-USA All-Academic Honors

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic graduate senior Hunter Cooley has been named to the Conference USA Baseball All-Academic team, the league announced on Friday.

The annual C-USA All-Academic baseball team consists of 11 student-athletes not to be limited by position. Nominees must have a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, at least a sophomore standing and be a starter or key reserve. Cooley is the first FAU baseball player to earn a place on the C-USA All-Academic team in back-to-back years.

In his fifth year as an Owl, Cooley has made 19 appearances on the mound including nine starts. He leads the team in innings pitched (75) and wins (6). Cooley has adapted well to a midseason move to the bullpen, allowing him to be used multiple times a weekend. Prior to the season, the Vero Beach native was selected by his teammates as a co-captain for the second consecutive season.

Since stepping on to campus as a true freshman in the fall of 2019, Cooley has racked up over 300 innings (third in program history), 68 appearances (11th), and 41 starts (fourth). With 26 wins as of May 19, he is just four away from tying Danny Core (2000-03) for the FAU career record.

In the classroom, Cooley completed his undergraduate degree with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Corrections in the fall of 2021. He is now working towards a master’s degree in criminology. He holds a 3.90 cumulative GPA.
