Chicago White Sox honor Minnie Miñoso’s Hall of Fame Induction with celebration on July 30

Miñoso Family Welcomed for Pregame Ceremony; Fans Enjoy Hall of Fame Plaque Photo Opportunities and Exclusive Replica Giveaway

July 27th, 2022

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox today announce highlights scheduled to honor the late Hall of Fame legend Minnie Miñoso on Saturday, July 30 vs. Oakland at 6:15 p.m. CT.

Celebrating this past weekend’s Hall of Fame Class of 2022 Induction Ceremony in Cooperstown, New York, the first 20,000 fans who enter the ballpark receive an exclusive Minnie Miñoso Replica Hall of Fame Plaque, presented by RUSH.

Fans are encouraged to be in their seats at least 30 minutes prior to first pitch for a pregame ceremony honoring “Mr. White Sox” and the Miñoso family, including his wife of 30 years, Sharon, son Charlie and daughters Marilyn and Cecilia. A family member also will throw the ceremonial first pitch.

Miñoso, a seven-time Major League Baseball and two-time Negro Leagues All-Star who broke the organization’s color barrier as the first Black Hispanic player in 1951, was born in La Habana, Cuba. He is considered a trailblazer among Afro-Latinos.

Representatives from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum also will showcase Miñoso’s bronze Hall of Fame plaque, soon to be a permanent enshrinement at the epicenter of baseball’s hallowed grounds in Cooperstown. The Hall of Fame plaque will be available for photo opportunities during the game on the concourse near Section 157.

Miñoso played 17 seasons in the major leagues, including 12 with the White Sox, and is one of just two players in major-league history (also Nick Altrock) to appear in a game in five different decades. He was selected to nine American League All-Star Teams, won three Rawlings Gold Glove Awards®, was named the 1951 Sporting News Rookie of the Year and finished in the top four of the AL Most Valuable Player voting four times.

Single-game tickets, as well as full, partial and group ticket packages for all other home games this season are available now at whitesox.com/tickets.
