C-USA Football: Dec. 1 Players of the Week

DALLAS – After setting a school record with 251 rushing yards and scoring two touchdowns to lead UTSA to a 49-17 victory over North Texas, Roadrunners sophomore RB Sincere McCormick has been voted the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week and fourth time this season.  The Defensive Player of the Week honor went to UTSA junior LB Trevor Harmanson, who had nine tackles, two quarterback hurries, a forced fumble and a pass breakup against North Texas.  The Special Teams Player of the Week award was given to UTSA senior P Lucas Dean, who averaged 46.7 yards on three punts vs. UNT, placing two inside the 20 yard line. C-USA Football Players of the Week are voted on by a panel of the league’s media.

This is the second time this season that one school has won all three awards in the same week, as UTSA joins Louisiana Tech, which swept the honors on November 2.

McCormick continued his record-setting ways with a career performance in UTSA’s 49-17 victory over North Texas on Saturday at the Alamodome. He broke his own school record for rushing yards in a game with 251 on 23 carries, an average of 10.9 yards per attempt. McCormick reached the end zone twice, scoring on a 65-yard dash in the second quarter and an 18-yard run in the fourth quarter to push his single-season rushing touchdowns record tally to 11. His sixth 100-yard game of the season and the ninth of his career — both program records — helped the Roadrunners rack up a school-record 443 rushing yards and program-best 624 total yards in the home finale. McCormick’s 251-yard showing is the best by any C-USA player this season and he owns five of the league’s top nine rushing performances in 2020. The Converse Judson High School product moved back into the FBS rushing yardage lead, as he increased his school-record total to 1,345 yards, while his 2,328 career yards are just shy of the UTSA standard of 2,393.

Harmanson paced a stout UTSA defense in the win over North Texas, registering nine tackles, two quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and a pass breakup. The Dickinson, Texas, native had a pair of tackles and both QB pressures on one drive during the opening period, while his forced fumble and PBU both came in the third quarter. Harmanson’s performance helped key a unit that held the Mean Green to just 17 points, 20 points below their average entering the contest. On the season, he has posted 68 tackles, including nine for loss, which is tied for fourth in C-USA.

Dean continued his stellar sophomore season by averaging 46.7 yards on three punts in the victory over North Texas. The Australian pinned the Mean Green inside their 20-yard line twice, once on 48-yarder that was returned to the 16 and again on 40-yard kick that was fair caught at the 16, while his other punt went 52 yards for a touchback. Dean leads C-USA and ranks seventh in the FBS with a 46.3 punting average this season. Of his 55 punts, 27 have ended up inside the 20, 21 have sailed 50-plus yards and 10 have resulted in fair catches.
