BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 18 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team (16-15, 2-4 CUSA) closed out their home schedule on Sunday, splitting against South Carolina (17-11, 0-3 CCSA), 3-2, and No. 14 FIU (20-9, 4-1 CUSA), 1-3 on senior day.

The Sandy Owls struck first with a win on court one. Ashleigh Adams and Julie Honzovicova captured a straight-set sweep against South Carolina’s top pair of Skylar Allen and Riley Whitesides, 21-16, 21-18. South Carolina tied things up at 1-1 with a court three win. Mikayla Law-Heese and Courtney Moon fell in a three-setter against the Gamecocks’ Jolie Cranford and Julia Waugh, 21-17, 18-21, 13-15. Florida Atlantic retook the lead at 2-1 after Olivia Strandberg and Kendall Mignerey claimed a three-set win against SC’s VB Trost and Sophie Bengoechea, 18-21, 21-19, 15-13. The Gamecocks tied up the dual at two apiece on court two as Sloane Woolwine and Marketa Svozilova fell to South Carolina’s Allison Coens and Hannah Mackenhausen in three sets, 14-21, 21-18, 10-15. However, the Sandy Owls clinched the dual win on court four as Kate McLaughlin and Logan Mignerey captured a straight-set sweep against the Gamecocks’ Morgan Downs and Peyton Yamagata, 21-17, 21-12.Scores

Ashleigh Adams and Julie Honzovicova gave the Sandy Owls the opening 1-0 lead after extending their impressive winning streak to 10-straight matches. The duo produced a dominant performance against FIU’s top pair of Giada Bianchi and Reka Orsi Toth, 21-13, 21-13. FIU then tied things up at 1-1 after capturing their first point on court five. Florida Atlantic’s Olivia Strandberg and Kendall Mignerey fell in a two-setter against the Panthers’ Lauren Huggins and Kendra Brown, 18-21, 18-21. The Panthers took their first lead of the dual at 2-1 after the Sandy Owls’ Mikayla Law-Heese and Courtney Moon dropped a three-set battle against FIU’s Lucie Pokorna and Zuzanna Bielak, 16-21, 22-20, 13-15. FIU eventually clinched the win on court two after the Sandy Owls’ Sloane Woolwine and Marketa Svozilova fell in straight sets against FIU’s Alice Pratesi and Lisa Luini, 17-21, 16-21.
