TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – No. 16 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball (14-13, 2-2 CUSA) closed out play in the FSU Unconquered Invitational on Saturday, earning wins over North Alabama (14-9), 3-2, and North Florida (16-10), 4-1.
NO. 16 FLORIDA ATLANTIC 3 – NORTH ALABAMA 2
The Sandy Owls scored first in the match with Courtney Moon and Mikayla Law-Heese securing a straight-set win against North Florida’s Grace Austin and Kaitlyn Holbrook, 21-12, 21-13. Kate McLaughlin and Logan Mignerey extended the Sandy Owl lead to 2-0 after earning a two-set victory at the 5s against the Lions’ Jelena Girod and Sarah Larkin Lewis, 21-17, 21-18. Ashleigh Adams and Julie Honzovicova clinched the match for Florida Atlantic at the 2s, taking a two-setter over UNA’s Katy Floyd and Selma Robinson, 21-16, 21-17. However North Alabama battled back to capture the final two courts to close out the dual. Brooklyn Goedhart and Sydney Schroder fell in a two-setter against the Lions’ Mackenzie Martin and Ryenne Gepford, 21-19, 21-14. Then the Sandy Owls’ 1s pair of Marketa Svozilova and Sloane Woolwine fell in a hard fought three-set battle against North Alabama’s Taylor Seney and Paula Klemperer, 21-19, 25-27, 15-11, to close out the 3-2 Florida Atlantic win.

UNF picked up the first point on court five as the Sandy Owls’ Kendall Mignerey and Olivia Strandberg fell in two sets against North Florida’s Katie Camp and Iris Fletcher, 21-18, 21-12. Kate McLaughlin and Logan Mignerey evened up the dual at 1-1 for Florida Atlantic, winning a three-setter on court four against the Ospreys’ Mariana Feliciano Sanchez and Mackenzie Murphy, 27-25, 15-21, 25-13. Marketa Svozilova and Sloane Woolwine pushed the Sandy Owls in front 2-1 after capturing a three-set comeback win on court two against UNF’s Madison Espy and Presley Murray, 16-21, 21-15, 15-12. Ashleigh Adams and Julie Honzovicova clinched the match for the Sandy Owls with their fourth win of the weekend and first at the 1s, defeating North Florida’s Michaela Rezentes and Taylor Pierce in straight sets, 21-11, 21-18. Courtney Moon and Mikayla Law-Heese closed out the Sandy Owls’ 4-1 win over North Florida with a straight-set victory on court three, defeating UNF’s Hayden Wooldridge and Cameron Humphries, 21-11, 21-18.
