ATLANTA – The No. 15-ranked Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team (8-2, 2-0 CUSA) competed in the GSU Day of Duals on Wednesday, earning a pair of 5-0 sweeps over Austin Peay (3-3) and Mercer (3-6), but falling in a tight 3-2 battle against No. 16 Georgia State (7-3).

Alivia Orvieto and Logan Mignerey got things started for the Owls with a dominant straight-set win, 21-7, 21-9, against Austin Peay’s Tristan Smith and Elizabeth Wheat on court five. Olivia Strandberg and Mikayla Law-Heese earned the Sandy Owls second point on court five, capturing a two-set victory over the Governors’ Anna Rita and Riley Marshall, 21-18, 21-16. Ashleigh Adams and Sloane Woolwine clinched the match for Florida Atlantic with the Sandy Owls’ third-straight two-set win on court two against ASPU’s Jamie Seward and Jillian Stein, 21-12, 21-16. Courtney Moon and Marketa Svozilova made it 4-0 Florida Atlantic on court one as they secured a straight-set win against Austin Peay’s Aurora Bibolotti and Kelsey Mead, 21-14, 21-10.Scores

Just like the opening match, Alivia Orvieto and Logan Mignerey struck first for the Sandy Owls, earning a straight-set win against Mercer’s Liv Diaz and Hollis Engel, 21-13, 21-18. Olivia Strandberg and Mikayla Law-Heese pushed Florida Atlantic’s lead to two, capturing a two-set victory on court four against the Bears’ Jordan Morris and Kathryn Corbett, 21-15, 21-19. Courtney Moon and Marketa Svozilova clinched the match, taking a two-set win on court one over Mercer’s top pair of Kate Hardie and Sydney Benson, 21-12, 21-15. Ashleigh Adams and Brooklyn Goedhart gave the Sandy Owls the 4-0 lead after rallying to a three-set comeback win on court two against the Bears’ Nicole O’Mara and Jordan Paddock, 16-21, 21-12, 15-8. Julie Honzovicova and Kate McLaughlin sealed the Sandy Owls’ 5-0 seep with their fourth straight-set win of the match against Mercer’s Lexi Polychrones and Reese Hood, 21-19, 21-16.Scores

Georgia State scored first as Olivia Strandberg and Mikayla Law-Heese fell in a two-set battle against Georgia State’s Savannah Ebarb and Destiny White, 21-19, 21-14. Alivia Orvieto and Logan Mignerey tied the Sandy Owls’ back up at 1-1 after earning a comeback three-set win on court five against GSU’s Michaela Jefferson and Aliisa Vuorinen, 19-21, 21-16, 22-20. The Panthers retook the lead at 2-1 after Courtney Moon and Marketa Svozilova dropped a two-setter against the Panthers’ Angel Ferary and Bella Ferary, 21-17, 21-18. Julie Honzovicova and Kate McLaughlin brought things even once again at 2-2 after picking up another three-set comeback on court three against Elise Saga and Alya Johnson, 12-21, 21-17, 15-12. But the Sandy Owls just couldn’t close it out on court two as Ashleigh Adams and Sloane Woolwine fell in straight sets, 21-18, 21-15, to Georgia State’s Lila Bordis and Aree Keller.Scores
