TAMPA, APRIL 18, 2019 – Head coach Jose Fernandez and USF women’s basketball welcomes junior college transfer Bethy Mununga to the Bulls 2019-20 roster.
The six-foot junior forward finished a successful junior college career with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, where she was a two-time NJCAA All-American. Mununga earned first team honors in 2018-19 to go along with her second-team honors from 2017-18.
With the Lady Norse, she averaged a double-double with 17.5 points per game and 13.5 rebounds per game during the 2018-19 season, leading NEO to a 22-9 team record. She led the nation in field goal percentage, (64.9) and was ranked third nationally in rebounds per game (13.5).
Mununga competed for her native country of Belgium in the 2017 FIBA U20 Women’s European Championship, where she averaged 9.7 points and 9.9 rebounds per game.
Mununga is ranked as the No. 1 shooting forward and No. 22 overall recruit in Dan Olson’s Girls Collegiate Report. Notably, she transfers to USF from the same college as former South Florida great, Inga Orekhova (2011-2014).
“Bethy brings a level of athleticism and an ability to score in multiple ways at the forward position,” Fernandez said. “Her experience at the junior college and international level will translate to making an impact here at USF.”
She joins incoming freshmen Kristyna Brabencova (Brno, Czech Republic), and Maria Alvarez (Bal Harbour, Fla.) as members of Fernandez’s 2019 signing class.
