Bulls Sweep Big Green Behind Four-Run Seventh

USF came alive late again with four runs in the seventh to secure its second sweep of the year 

TAMPA, FLA., MARCH 17, 2019 – Trailing in the seventh, the USF baseball team scored all of its runs and held on for 4-1 win over Dartmouth to secure its second series sweep of the year.

The Bulls (11-7) were held without a hit until the sixth inning. The Big Green (4-7) made USF work and play from behind, scoring on four hits in the first inning. Dartmouth maintained the 1-0 edge until USF got something going in the seventh.

Consecutive singles by Tyler Dietrich (Naples, Fla.) and Alex Bello (Miami) put two on with one out. Junior Jordan Santos (Tampa) delivered with a two-RBI single to right, giving the Bulls their first lead.

With the bases loaded, junior Austin Bodrato (Northvale, N.J.) hit his own two-RBI single, making it 4-1. Junior lefty Noah Yager (Davie, Fla.) cruised over the final 5.0 innings and did not allow Dartmouth to answer, as he allowed just one hit during the outing. 

Key Stats

0 – Yager and classmate Ben Koff (Gainesville, Fla.) did not allow a walk in the game. It was the first time this year USF hasn’t issued a walk and just the third time since the start of 2018. 
2 – Series sweeps for USF this year. 
8 – Bodrato had eight RBI in the series.  
2 – Chatfield has homers in back-to-back games, and now has three on the year. 

Nota-Bulls

·         Yager struck out six over the final 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.

·         Dietrich and junior Jordan Santos (Tampa) each hit .364 over the weekend.

·         The USF pitching staff combined for a 1.33 ERA in the sweep.
