Bulls Host Cincinnati and ECU in Final Home Weekend

TAMPA, Nov. 7, 2019 – The USF volleyball team welcomes Cincinnati and East Carolina into the Corral for the final home weekend of 2019.

USF (7-19, 1-11) returns to its home court after a two-match road trip and will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday. The Bulls will celebrate seniors Jac’cara Walker, Nyemba Musemuna, and Rafaela Biegelmeyer prior to the match against ECU.

Friday’s matchup against the Bearcats will mark the 35th meeting between the programs, with the Bulls looking to improve on a 13-22 all-time record. USF will face ECU on Sunday for the 16th time with the Bulls leading the series 11-5.

Last week, Ally Barnhart (Lenexa, Kan.) recorded three solo blocks against Memphis and surpassed her season-high for solo blocks.

Lindsey Pliapol (Daytona Beach, Fla.) played a factor in the match against Memphis on Sunday. Pliapol came off the bench and had an immediate impact in the game, leading the Bulls to a second set win with five of her ten kills in the match. Pliapol finished one dig shy of her eighth double-double of the season.

The Bulls have two players ranked in the top ten in the American. Lauren LaBeck (Chicago, Ill.) currently sits in the eighth spot for assists with 271, while CC Clausen (The Woodlands, Texas) ranks tenth in digs with 147.

CINCINNATI (20-5, 11-1 American)

The Bearcats head into Friday on a six-game winning streak. Cincinnati defeated Temple (Nov. 1) and UConn (Nov. 3) this past weekend to improve to 11-1 in the American.

Jordan Thompson is coming off a weekend in which she had 50 kills against UConn (Oct. 18) to break the AAC single-match record (44 kills). Thompson leads the Bearcats offense with 575 kills, while Maria Mallon leads the defense with 268 digs.

ECU (18-8, 5-7 American)

The Pirates enter the weekend on a three-game winning streak after sweeping UConn (Nov. 1) and Temple (Nov. 3) last week.

Bri Wood heads into the weekend leading the Pirates in kills with 328. On the defensive side of the court, Brandee Markwith’s 449 digs leads ECU.

  • Head coach Courtney Draper is three wins away from capturing 120 victories with South Florida.
  • Lindsey Pliapol leads the offense with 282 kills and is third in digs with 209.

USF returns four starters, including its libero, while welcoming 9 newcomers to the fray in 2019 in the form of two transfers and seven freshmen.
