Bulls Homecoming Clash With BYU Set For 3:30 Kick

First-ever meeting between programs to be televised by CBS Sports Network

TAMPA, SEPT. 30, 2019 – USF football’s homecoming clash with BYU on Saturday, Oct. 12 has been set for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff and will be televised on CBS Sports Network.

It will mark the first-ever meeting between the Bulls and Cougars on the gridiron and the second straight afternoon kickoff for the Bulls in Raymond James Stadium.

USF will bring a 13-9 record in homecoming games into the contest, having won its last four straight, including a 38-30 victory over UConn last Oct. 20.

An FBS independent, BYU stands 2-3 on the season after a grueling early schedule that saw the Cougars post wins at Tennessee (29-26) and vs. No. 24 USC (30-27), and losses to No. 15 Utah (30-12), No. 21 Washington (45-19) and at Toledo (28-21) last Saturday. The Cougars have a bye week this week before coming to Tampa.

BYU has logged 577 wins in football since the program’s inception in 1922, including 23 conference titles, 36 bowl game appearances and one national title. The Oct. 12 meeting between USF and BYU will be the first of two, with USF traveling to Provo, Utah on Sept. 25, 2021.

USF (1-3; 0-1 American) will head to UConn (1-3; 0-1 American) Saturday for a noon kickoff at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford. The Bulls will be looking to continue a seven-game win streak vs. the Huskies in a close series that the Bulls lead 11-5, but has an average margin of victory of just eight points.

USF posted its second straight 10-win season in 2017 (10-2) by winning its second straight Birmingham Bowl with a 38-34 victory over Texas Tech. USF is one of just 15 teams nationally to win 20-plus games in the last two seasons (21-4) and posted a program-record 20 straight weeks ranked in the top 25, reaching as high as No. 13 in Week 8 of the 2017 season. The Bulls have won five of their last six bowl appearances and made nine (6-3) total bowl appearances in 21 seasons, including a current run of three straight bowls. USF won a program-record 11 games in 2016 (11-2) and has posted 14 winning seasons. The USF program, which first took the field in 1997, reached No. 2 in the rankings in 2007 and has seen 30 players selected in the NFL Draft, 14 named All-American and had 28 first-team all-conference selections.
