Bulls Finish Fourth at SAISA Women’s Championships

USF secured it’s fourth top-five finish of the Spring

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., April 22, 2019 – 
The USF women’s sailing team finished fourth at the SAISA Women’s Championship, hosted by Eckerd College over the weekend.

The Bulls have four top-five finishes this spring and have finished inside the top-10 in all seven of their events. Jacksonville took the overall win, followed by the College of Charleston and the hosts Eckerd.

This qualifies USF for the Women’s Nationals Semifinals in Newport, R.I., May 21-22. The Bulls have reached the national finals in six of the last seven years.


Nota-Bulls

  • Sophomore Marina Barzaghi (Saunderstown, R.I.), junior Delaney Brown (West Palm, Fla.) and senior Rachel Yannelli (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) finished second in the A division.
  • Sophomore Katie Bornarth (Jensen Beach, Fla.), freshman Chloe Sweeting (Hope Town, Marsh Harbour, Bahamas) and sophomore Samantha Kappaz finished fifth in the B division.

Up Next
The Bulls have some time off to prepare for the Women’s Nationals Semis May 21-22. The national finals will be that same week.

About USF Sailing

The USF sailing program has reached the national finals in six of the last seven years. The Bulls finished in the top 10 during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The sailing team is based out of St. Petersburg and led by head coach Allison Jolly, a former USA Olympian and 2016 Florida Sports Hall of Fame inductee.
