Bulls Fall to Tulsa in Game Two of the League-Opening Series

USF fell, 10-4, to the Golden Hurricane in the second game of the American Athletic Conference opening series.

TAMPA, March 23, 2019 – USF fell to Tulsa, 10-4, in the second game of the its conference-opening series on Saturday night.

Tulsa (20-9, 1-1) scored five runs in the opening frame of play, scatting four hits. The Golden Hurricane scored on a sacrifice fly, a pair of singles and an error.

USF (23-13, 1-1) responded in the bottom of the frame with one run. Freshman Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hill, Md.) and senior Lindsey Devitt (Jacksonville, Fla.) got on base with a walk and a hit-by-pitch before senior Macy Cook (Uniontown, Ohio) hit an RBI single through the left side.

The Golden Hurricane tacked on four more runs in the third and fourth innings. Three singles in the third scored one, and two singles and a triple added two in the fourth before a groundout tacked on one more.

In the bottom of the third inning, freshman Sheehan singled to the shortstop and stole second, she advanced to third on a throwing error by the Tulsa catcher. Sheehan made it home on a sacrifice fly by Devitt on the next play.

Once again, Sheehan and Devitt were part of the scoring action. Sheehan battled through nine pitches to draw a walk in the sixth inning, and infielder Devitt blasted a two-run bomb over the left field fence to double USF’s score.

Tulsa scored one more on three hits in the seventh inning to seal the win. Samantha Pochop improved to 7-4 while USF’s Nicole Doyle (Aurora, Ohio) fell to 6-9.

  • Sheehan and Devitt were involved in all three of USF’s scoring plays
  • Freshman Brittany Hook pitched 3.2 innings, the most in her career
  • Devitt accounted for three RBI, Cook accounted for one
