Bulls Drop Second Game to No. 1 Florida

The Bulls dropped the second game of their weekend series to the Gators, 15-5.

GAINESVILLE (March 7, 2020) – The USF baseball team fell to No. 1 Florida on the road Saturday, 15-5. 

The Bulls (5-9) fell behind early to the No. 1 Gators (15-0), 1-0, in the first. Florida then plated three runs in the second and one run in the third to lead, 5-0. No. 1 Florida was able to extend their lead to 13 in the bottom of the sixth. The Gators would score two in the eighth.

The Bulls were able to get on the board in the top of the seventh inning. After Jordan Santos (Tampa, Fla.) would draw a leadoff walk. Nick Gonzalez (Tampa, Fla.) would give the Bulls their first hit of the game with a single to center. Riley Hogan (Orlando, Fla.) would drive a double down the right field line scoring, Santos for the Bulls’ first run. Gonzalez would come around to score for the second run of the inning on a wild pitch. Carmine Lane (Lake Placid, Fla.) would send a ball to deep center to score Hogan for the third run.

After a Dontae Mitchell (St. Petersburg, Fla.) single to lead off the top of the eighth. Santos would hit his first home run of the season with a two-run homer to right field.

Jack Jasiak (Spring Hill, Fla.) suffered the loss on the hill for the Bulls allowing five runs on five hits through three innings.

Notable

·        Logan Lyle (Saint Johns, Fla.) recorded his seventh appearance out of the bullpen.

·        Ben Koff (Gainesville, Fla.) made his first appearance of the season out of the bullpen for the Bulls.

  • Carmine Lane drove in his team-leading eighth run.
  • Jordan Santos belted his first homer of the season.

    The Bulls will play the No. 1 Gators in the series finale tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.

The Bulls earned their third NCAA Regional berth in the last four seasons and had six all-conference selections in 2018.
