Bulls Compete in Massachusetts at Duplin Women’s Team Race

The Regatta Will Only Take Place on Sunday Due to Weather

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., March 22, 2019 –
The USF women’s sailing team heads back north for the Duplin Women’s Team Race in Medford Mass.

Of the nine schools competing this weekend, only two are not ranked in the top-10. USF will be competing against MIT, Boston College, Boston University, Brown, Harvard, Tufts, University of Rhode Island and Northeastern.

“These are the best of the best, and this will be a sneak preview of the Women’s Team Race Nationals Invitational in April,” said head coach Allison Jolly.

The forecast for the Duplin women’s team race at Tufts this weekend calls for snow showers on Saturday with a high of 46 degrees and winds gusting to 43 mph. Saturday’s racing has been canceled, meaning it will be a Sunday only event.

“Since we were unable to change our flights, I did find a minor regatta at Mass Maritime for us to compete in as a “warm-up” for Sunday. It is in a more sheltered location and at this point they still intend to sail,” said Jolly.

Nota-Bulls

  • Sophomores Marina Barzaghi (Saunderstown, R.I.), Katie Bornarth (Jensen Beach, Fla.) and Samantha Kappaz, seniors Darby Capellin (Bradenton, Fla.) and Rachel Yannelli (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) and junior Delaney Brown (West Palm, Fla.) will all make the trip.
  • There are no divisions in team racing, meaning each team sends its top six sailors to compete in a round-robin format.
