Bulls Compete in Eckerd Intersectional

The USF Sailing team took 12th in St. Petersburg during the Eckerd Intersectional, Feb. 29-March 1

TAMPA, March 3, 2020 –The USF women’s sailing team finished 12th overall at the Eckerd Intersectional, placing 12th in the A division and eighth in the B division this past weekend.

The coed event featured 18 schools. USF fielded the only all-freshman team in the intersectional which stacked up as an interesting matchup against diverse teams: NC State, Boston College, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, UC Santa Barbara, Princeton, and Texas.

The Bulls combined for a total of five top-five finishes throughout the 16 races sailed.

Coach Allison Jolly’s impressions from the Intersectional:

“As the only all-freshmen team, we did make some mistakes, but also had some very strong races. We are definitely capable of racing with the top groups, as evidenced by several top-five finishes in the 16 races we sailed. We just need to work on our consistency, which will come with improved starts, so that is the area we will be focusing on.”

The USF sailing program has reached the national finals in seven of the last eight years. The Bulls finished in the top 10 during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The sailing team is based out of St. Petersburg and led by head coach Allison Jolly, a former USA Olympian and 2016 Florida Sports Hall of Fame inductee.
