Bulls Add The Citadel to 2020 Schedule

Bulldogs come to Raymond James Stadium on Sept. 12

TAMPA, AUG. 20, 2020 – USF has announced the addition of The Citadel to the Bulls’ 2020 football schedule. The teams will meet on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Raymond James Stadium, replacing USF’s previously scheduled contest with Bethune-Cookman on that date.

The Southern Conference program is now the first opponent on USF’s 2020 schedule under first-year head coach Jeff Scott and joins FAU (Sept. 26) to give USF two nonconference opponents before heading into an eight-game American Athletic Conference slate. USF continues to actively seek nonconference opponents to replace the loss of Texas and Nevada from the schedule.

The Bulldogs went 6-6 in 2019 and enter their fifth season under head coach Brent Thompson. The Citadel has ranked in the top 10 in rushing offense each of the last four seasons, including sixth nationally in 2019 at 268.2 yards per game. Among its six victories in 2019 was a 27-24 overtime victory at Georgia Tech.

Scott and USF’s new coaching staff will take the field with 16 returning starters and 49 lettermen from the 2019 team.

The American Athletic Conference announced on Aug. 5 the conference’s plan and timeline for the start of athletics competition for the Fall 2020 season. In football, the plan calls for each of The American’s teams to play eight conference games on their originally scheduled dates. Nonconference games may be played at the discretion of the individual schools, with the understanding that the opponents will strictly adhere to protocols and standards for testing, pregame, in-game and postgame operations set by The American’s Medical Advisory Group.
