BUCCANEERS QUARTERBACK JAMEIS WINSTON

Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019

(On the Buccaneers defense setting the tone early on in the game) “That’s the key of football, run the football and play good defense. If you do that, you win games – 99 percent of the time. So, we’re proud of those guys, they were incredible and we’re very thankful for them.”

(On the momentum since winning three of the last four games) “You know, one game at a time – that’s it. We’ve got to win one game at a time, and we’ve got to continue to play well. If we do that, we give ourselves a chance.”

(On chemistry with WR Breshad Perriman and his game) “Yeah, he was phenomenal and that’s the type of receiver that he is. We’re going continue to work, we’re going continue to do our best at getting the ball to him and [O.J. Howard]. O.J. had an amazing game today, too, so we were happy that we were able to get both those guys the ball to hopefully open up and create some [momentum].”

(On the secret behind the success between him and WR Breshad Perriman) “We work every day. We work every single day. Relentless – me and him. On the field and in practice – every single day.”

(On the even distribution of passes to different players) “Oh when we’re able to do that, we’re rolling. It makes it tough on the defenses. We’re blessed to have [WR] Mike Evans and [WR] Chris Godwin who are both 1,000-yard receivers, but everyone likes to eat too and it’s always good to let everyone else get fed – and those guys appreciate that, too.”

(On Head Coach Bruce Arian’s statement that they go into games expecting to win and what that means to him) “It means that that’s how it should be. We should expect to win. So, I appreciate Bruce and I definitely back that. We’ve just got to continue to do it and I think we’re just coming together. These past two games have been great games of playing complementary football. Our defense has been incredible, and we have capitalized on opportunities that our defense has given us. We have just got to continue to do that. We’ve got to finish better as an offense and as long as we do that, we’re going to be a tough team to play.”

(On ILB Devin White as a rookie) “Well, that’s just who he is. To him, it’s nothing. To us, it’s like ‘Aw man, he’s amazing!’ – which he is – but that’s just who he is as a player. He’s a dominant player, he has a great leader standing right beside him, Lavonte David, and I’m just happy to see him flourish. He had to balance some adversity at the beginning, like you said, with the injury and I think he’s finally starting to get healthy. He’s definitely playing what he’s capable of doing, and more.”

(On the defense in the second half) “They’re resilient and they’re playing really good football. We’ve got to give a lot of credit to them. You know, defense wins championships and offense wins games. Hopefully we can just continue to put our defense in good situations and continue to ball out for what they have.”

(On the variety and balance of the offense) “Every offense is good when you can run the football. When you look all over the league, if a team is running the football, everyone else is doing their job well too. We know that. We know it starts at the line of scrimmage. I think this Jacksonville team had been doing a great job of dominating the line of scrimmage and that’s why we’ve got to give credit to our defense, one of the best running backs in the league was held, so we’ve just got to continue to play.”

(On OLB Shaquil Barrett’s season) “It’s incredible. I think that he’s kind of been behind one of the best defensive ends that has ever played this game. So now, him being able to have his own team and have his own shine, it has been amazing. I’m happy [about] our defense in general, but he is definitely leading the pack of making big plays game after game. And, like I said, just like Devin [White], that’s just who he is.”
