Blazer Baseball Continues to Excel in the Classroom

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB baseball team has established a standard of academic excellence throughout the years, which was furthered through the fall as the Blazers posted a team GPA above a 3.0 for the 23rd consecutive semester.

Individually, 25 members of the team earned above a 3.0 GPA for the fall semester, while 11 boasted above a 3.5 GPA at the year’s end.

“We are again extremely proud of our guys for their achievements in the classroom. Twenty three consecutive semesters is a pretty remarkable streak and speaks to a culture of academic commitment,” said coach Brian Shoop. “This is not an easy accomplishment. We send out a big thank you to Erin Brady, our academic advisor, for her tireless efforts as well as to our guys for putting in the necessary work.”

To begin the year, UAB baseball was awarded the 2018-19 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award for totaling a team GPA above a 3.0 for the 2018-19 academic year. While 51 other division one programs also received the honor, UAB was the only Conference USA representative. The announcement marked the fourth straight year UAB has been awarded the honor. The Blazers are also one of 12 DI programs to achieve the award each year since its inception in 2015.

After another successful semester off the field, the Blazers will look to continue their on-field success in the upcoming season, beginning with hosting Notre Dame Feb. 14-16 for this year’s season-opening home series. The first two games will be played at Regions Field with the series finale being held at Young Memorial Field.
