Big East Tournament: Providence vs Creighton

Providence with Big East player of the year Devin Carter taking on the Number 2 seeded Creighton Blue Jays. Creighton jumped out to a 13-6 lead and after a foul by Carter Providence Coach Kim English exploded and received a technical foul. From that point on Carter started to show why he was voted player of the year, he had a steal back to back baskets at the 9:25 mark of the 1st half. Creighton was cold from the field and behind the arc and shot 18% in the 1st half from 3 and 26% overall from the field. Providence held a 33-30 halftime lead.

The second half would be eerily similar to the 1st half for the Bluejays as Providence hit Back to back 3’s to go up 41-32 and Carter hit a 3 made it 46-36. Creighton would storm all the way back  with about 6 minutes left and a few lead changes  but Providence behind Oduro and Carter would ultimately snuff out the rally. Oduro hit his second sweet bank shot of the game to put Providence up 6 with under a minute to go. Carter had 22 Oduro 17 and Pierre 15 to lead Providence. Creighton had 4 in double figures Kalkbrenner and Alexander with 19 and Scheirman and Ashworth with 16. The Final Providence 78 Creighton 73, Providence gets the winner of Villanova Marquette Friday night. It’s the 1st time ever St Johns, UConn and Providence have made the semifinals together.
