Baseball – Sharks Salvage SSC Series with Win over Lions

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks Baseball team was victorious in the Sunshine State Conference series finale against the Saint Leo Lions, earning a 12-5 win on Sunday afternoon at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.

How it Happened
  • Saint Leo opened the game with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. 
  • The Sharks cut into the Lions lead with an RBI double from Landon Lowe, putting the score at 2-1.
  • SLU extended their lead with an RBI single, putting the score at 3-1. 
  • Nova Southeastern rallied to score four runs in the top of the fourth inning. The four-run frame started with an RBI single from Jorge Braceras, which was followed by the tying run scoring on a double play. 
  • Justin Wachs capped the inning with a two-run home run, giving NSU a 5-3 advantage. 
  • Braceras continued to swing the bat well, driving in Zeth Rodriguez and Bryan Loriga, pushing the Sharks’ lead to 7-3.
  • Boris Pena added an RBI single, bringing in Wachs, extending NSU’s advantage to 8-3. 
  • Saint Leo plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, putting the score at 8-5. 
  • The Sharks scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning, capping the rally with a two-run single by Ryan Cainzos, and taking the 12-5 win in the series finale.
