Baseball – Sharks Open Series with Doubleheader Sweep

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks Baseball team began their four-game series against the Davenport Panthers with a pair of dramatic victories on Friday evening at the NSU Baseball Complex. In game one, NSU rallied to win 6-5 after the Panthers plated five in the opening frame. The Sharks earned a walk-off, 3-2 victory in the night cap.

How it Happened

Game One

  • Davenport opened the series with a five-run frame in the top of the first inning. 
  • Facing trouble in the top of the second inning, Kader Rabagh pitched out of a bases-loaded jam, keeping the Sharks deficit from growing. 
  • Nova Southeastern got back into the game with a four-run bottom of the third. NSU loaded the bases, scoring their first run as Zeth Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch, which was followed by a two-run single by Henry Wallen.
  • Mario Lopez capped off the inning with a solo home run, putting the score at 5-4. 
  • Frank Elissalt, after inheriting a bases loaded jam with one out, got out of the top half of the fourth inning with a strikeout and a fly out. 
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, MC Sagaro tied the game at 5-5 with an RBI single, driving in Wachs. 
  • Jorge Braceras gave Nova Southeastern its first lead of the game, bringing in Landon Lowe with a sacrifice fly, putting the score at 6-5. 
  • Elissalt earned his first win of the season, adding two more strikeouts in the top of the seventh inning, as Braceras sealed the win by catching his 11th runner stealing on the season.

How it Happened

Game Two

  • Collin Rothermel, the starting pitcher for NSU, opened the game with four scoreless innings on the mound. 
  • Davenport got on the board first, breaking the tie in the pitchers dual with a two-run single in the top of the fifth inning. 
  • Justin Wachs got the Sharks on the board with a solo home run, his third of the season, putting the score at 2-1.
  • Lopez tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning, driving in Wachs with an RBI single.
  • The Sharks tallied their first walk-off win of the season, as Ariel Garcia scored the winning run, giving Nova Southeastern the 3-2 win.
