Baseball – Sharks Offense Erupts, Scores 20, in win over Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks Baseball team bounced back with a dominant, 20-7 win against Florida Tech on Saturday afternoon in Sunshine State Conference action. The 20 runs marked the most runs for the Sharks since the 2018 season, when NSU scored 25 in a win over Catawba on February 4, 2020.

How it Happened
  • NSU capitalized on a defensive miscue by Florida Tech and scored the first run of the game following a throwing error by the Panthers.
  • FIT responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, taking a 3-1 lead over the Sharks.
  • Florida Tech plated another pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. 
  • The Sharks were able to cut into the Panthers lead in the top of the third inning, as Justin Wachs drove in Boris Pena with an RBI triple and later scored on a wild pitch, putting the score at 5-3. 
  • Florida Tech scored two more runs in the bottom of the frame, extending their lead to 7-3. 
  • Nova Southeastern flipped the game in the top of the sixth inning, plating seven runs in the frame. 
  • Landon Lowe drove in MC Sagaro on an RBI single and later in the frame, Tyson Cooper worked a walk with the bases loaded to bring in Frank Villella
  • Henry Wallen promptly unloaded the bases, hitting a grand slam, and put NSU in front 9-7.
  • The Sharks batted around the lineup in the frame and Sagaro capped off the inning with an RBI single, driving in Pena to put NSU ahead 10-7. 
  • In the following inning, Nova Southeastern added another six runs, extending the lead to 16-7 over Florida Tech. 
  • Pena drove in two with a bases loaded single, bringing in Zeth Rodriguez and Lowe. Wachs followed with an RBI single, which drove in Wallen. 
  • Ryan Cainzos and Jorge Braceras each added an RBI single in the inning for e Sharks. 
  • NSU wasn’t done yet, scoring another four runs in the top of the ninth inning, putting the score at 20-7. 
  • Lowe drove in both Sagaro and Cainzos, which was followed by an RBI single by Wallen – his fifth RBI of the game – and the inning was capped off by Pena bringing in Lowe with a fielders’ choice
