Baseball – Sharks Fall in Extras Against Lions in Series Opener

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Despite opening the game with a four-run first inning, the Nova Southeastern Sharks Baseball team dropped the Sunshine State Conference series opener to the Saint Leo Lions 10-9 in ten innings on Friday night at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.

How it Happened
  • Justin Wachs opened the game with his fourth home run of the season, promptly giving the Sharks a 1-0 lead. 
  • Following a single by Tyson CooperZeth Rodriguez and Boris Pena connected for back-to-back home runs, extending the Nova Southeastern lead to 4-0.
  • In the top of the second inning, Cooper drove in Jorge Braceras with an RBI double, putting NSU ahead 5-0. 
  • Saint Leo plated a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame, cutting the Sharks’ lead to 5-2.
  • Nova Southeastern got back on the scoreboard with an RBI double from Rodriguez, as he drove in Wachs for his second RBI of the game. 
  • The Lions responded with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, putting the score at 6-5. 
  • SLU took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the seventh, scoring a pair of runs off the Sharks’ bullpen, making the score 7-6. 
  • NSU tied the game at 7-7 with a sacrifice fly from Jorge Braceras
  • In the top of the ninth inning, Bryan Loriga clubbed his fifth home run of the season, giving NSU a 9-7 lead. 
  • Saint Leo tied the game, with two outs, at 9-9 and sent the contest into extra innings. 
  • The Lions hit a walk-off home run in the 10th inning, stealing the series opening win from NSU.
