Coach's Corner

Head Coach Laz Gutierrez – When you win it feels good but definitely when you play a complete game. We played well in all areas, we maximized innings offensively, defensively we played clean baseball, and Carlos Rey on the mound was incredible.

How it Happened

Bottom of the First – After a leadoff double to left field for Michael Uz, the Sharks were able to bring him home after a series of ground balls. Sharks take an early 1-0 lead.

Top of the Second – Barry was able to tie up the game at 1 after an RBI single to right field.

Bottom of the Second – After back-to-back singles from Kristian Noriega and Adam Smith to open the bottom half of the inning, the Sharks were unable to bring a run in, keeping the game tied at 1.

Top of the Fourth – Duncan Pastore opened the inning by making an impressive snag in foul territory to get the first batter out. After back-to-back singles, the Sharks got out of the inning after a 5-4-3 double play.

Top of the Seventh – Carlos Rey remained dominant on the mound, getting in and out of the inning quickly, striking out two batters. Game remains tied at 1.

Bottom of the Seventh – The bats came alive in the seventh for the Sharks. A leadoff single up the middle for Derek Bermudez and an infield single for Michael Uz, helped set up Adam Frank for an RBI single, bringing home Bermudez. Duncan Pastore followed up with an RBI single, bringing home Uz. The Sharks then opened the game wide open after a Daniel Irisarri three-run home run, giving the Sharks a 6-1 lead.

Top of the Ninth – Carlos Rey came back out for the final inning and made quick work, retiring the side, securing Rey the complete game, and NSU the 6-1 victory.
